Section 98 was given in response to the persecution of the Saints. Our afflictions are not only for our own good, but for the good of others and the Glory of God. God has not given us these experience for ourselves only. We need to share them so that others may benefit as well.
These are just my thoughts as I study the Doctrine and Covenants for my class at BYU. This blog is meant to just be my thoughts, and is not necessarily official doctrine of the church. For more information about the LDS church, visit the links on the left.

Good question. One answer about standing in holy places is perhaps the same idea that if we are where we should be, fulfilling our callings, serving God, and fellowshipping with good people, we will be able to find that person that we are to marry. Our safety lies in being at the right place in the right time. Holy places are not only found in the temple, but in our homes, apartments, places of work, or anywhere that is sanctified by our presence as we live the covenants.
